The Café Missing You Story
Sisters Jessica and Madelene are both graduates from the Singapore Management University. It was during Madelene’s final year that the spark for Café Missing You ignited. Yearning for excitement and meaning during the semester break, the sisters embarked on this culinary journey, treating their home-based venture as a labour of love and a creative escape from the routine of remote work.
The social isolation of the pandemic brought about a renewed interest in cooking around the world, and amateur chefs like the sisters found themselves naturally drawn to their home kitchens. Tiramisu, a beloved treat in their family, became the centrepiece of their culinary endeavour. With dedication and creativity, they crafted and refined their recipe, ensuring that every layer of their tiramisu was a testament to their commitment to perfection.
The inspiration to start Café Missing You was not just driven by the sisters’ love for the Italian dessert; it was a quest for authenticity. Frustrated by the lack of authentic, mouthwatering tiramisu options in the city, the sisters set out to fill the void. They felt that tiramisu enthusiasts deserved better than the overly dry or cake-like varieties commonly sold in Singapore. Their mission was clear: to create the perfect tiramisu for those who craved its true essence.
With no formal culinary training, the sisters embraced a self-taught approach. Each iteration of their recipe was a labour of love, demanding meticulous attention to detail. The result of their dedication speaks for itself in every bite of their tiramisu, each spoonful an attestation to their journey from trial and error to ultimate triumph.
Their road to success, however, has not been without its moments of kitchen hilarity. Limited fridge space necessitated some precarious balancing acts as they had to delicately place trays of tiramisu on the racks, praying that nothing tumbles to the floor. Experiences like these encapsulate the spirit of their entrepreneurial venture – a delightful blend of ambition, humourous moments, and culinary prowess.
Making and selling tiramisu from home has created a new and interesting facet to their lives. While they relish the joy of crafting each tiramisu, they also had to sacrifice some aspects of their social lives. The demanding process of fulfilling large orders, such as their intense Christmas baking marathon, can be both physically and mentally taxing. Yet, it is these moments that underscore their dedication and the lengths they are willing to go to share their passion with others.
Taste Test
We tried tiramisu in four different flavours by Café Missing You – Classic, Signature Rum, Bailey’s, and Salted Caramel and here’s what we think.
Classic
The first spoonful of the Classic Tiramisu carried a hint of nostalgia, reminiscent of the original Italian creation. However, the delivery journey seemed to have slightly impacted its consistency, leaving it a touch watery. Thankfully, after a night in the refrigerator, it ultimately asserted itself as a remarkably satisfying treat. The flavours melded flawlessly, the mascarpone dancing harmoniously with the coffee-soaked ladyfingers, offering a familiar and comforting embrace.

Signature Rum

The strong presence of rum immediately commanded attention, inviting those fond of bold flavours to indulge their senses. The rich, spirited essence added a robust twist to the classic recipe, creating an experience that was bold and delightful. This rendition showcased the sisters’ knack for experimentation, infusing the dessert with a dash of audacity that left a lasting impression.

Bailey’s
With the Bailey’s Tiramisu, Café Missing You orchestrated a symphony of flavours in perfect harmony. Every spoonful unveiled a splendid dance between the silky mascarpone and the velvety, caramel-infused Bailey’s liqueur. Each component was layered on top of each other like a well-composed melody, with the sweetness of the Bailey’s playing off the depth of the coffee and the delicate touch of cocoa. A demonstration of their mastery in striking a harmonious balance, this was a dessert that was as elegant as it was indulgent.

Salted Caramel
